Celebrate 420: Activities, Movies, Parties, and more!

The biggest holiday for cannabis lovers is right around the corner!

For those who aren’t in the “know” – the origins of the date, and the term “420” isn’t crystal clear, so no worries. Here’s the scoop: some claim that it refers to a police code for marijuana possession.

April 20th, otherwise known as 4/20 or 4:20, is the day (and/or time) that cannabis lovers enjoy their favorite strain of hemp-derived flower, take an edible, or take a draw from their favorite vape.

Others believe that it arose from Bob Dylan’s “Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35,” with its refrain of “Everybody must get stoned” — 420 being the product of 12 times 35.

Recently we surveyed customers, asking them how they celebrate this special holiday. We share what they plan to do on 420 throughout this article. In addition, we’ve got some of Indacloud’s finest team members who share what they are up to.

We Hear You: Here’s how you celebrate 420

At the beginning of April we posted a poll to our customers with three questions. The goal was to learn more about what they are planning to do on 420. 94 percent of folks said they know about the holiday and 76 percent of respondents said they plan to celebrate 420.

“I have only been on my cannabis journey since 2023,” said Charles L. “I have not truly felt a part of the culture until this year,” he said. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t feel a part of the culture. You do belong, and we are thrilled you are a part of our community.

Charles says that he is celebrating 420 for the first time!

“I’ll start with a decent meal and some puffs of my Dirty Girl vape. Something to really get me ready for the day. Then at lunch time, I’ll move into my favorite hybrid, Electric Cool-Aid, and maintain the perfect balance of elevation and clarity. I’ll end the day with some Sherbert Queen indica and my new favorite treat, Bedtime Berry Popping Crystals.”

Thanks, Charles, for the shoutouts! You are the best!

James L. says he’s been consuming cannabis for a few years and plans to celebrate 420 at 2025 Reggae Fest, in Austin, Texas. Lucky guy! This is the festival’s 30th year with proceeds benefiting Central Texas Food Bank in the community since 1994.

Sherry G is a stoner from the stone age who enjoys this holiday with her mother and daughters. Three generations of cannabis love.

Some holidays are a reminder of those we care about who have passed. Many of you might think about Bob Marley, who passed away in 1981 due to complications of melanoma at the age of 36. His music lives on.

I’ve put together a 420 playlist to celebrate 420, check it out here

Karbear M says she thinks about the memory of her bestie, who passed away in 2018. Sorry for your loss, Karbear. Big hugs

Jacqueline S. doesn’t want to miss 420. She says “I actually have an alarm set so for sure that at least one day I remember to sit down and meditate while smoking.”

Lance G. says “Three buddies of mine get together every year and bring different cannabis products. (Flower, hash, concentrates, disposables) Then we smoke all day and watch stoner movies – starting with Half Baked.”

If you are looking for a movie, we have a great list of 420 Friendly movies, check it out here. I’d like to add Up in Smoke

When we asked survey respondents to tell us how long they’ve been consuming cannabis. The options were: Less than one month, Six months or more, 1-3 years, 3-7 years, “I’m high all the time” and 45 percent said: “Stoner from the Stoneage”- we see you! Props to all the OGs!

“I bake something and have a movie night,” said Love, who shared how she plans to celebrate the holiday. Are you looking for cannabis cooking ideas? Check out this new guide

While the list of how you all would celebrate would be an extremely TL:DR article, I’m thankful to have learned a LOT more about you. Lastly, BS says:”I take time to join other friends who are 420 friendly and we smoke and relax. Some share, and we help each other.”

I’m with BS (although I wish I knew your first name) – celebrating holidays, or any day, is better in community. Find a friend, meet a new one, and enjoy your day!

Hosting a party? Know the “unwritten rules”

… well they are written now. Do you want to host a party?  Well you might want to check out our article on how to be the “Life of the Party” Not sure how to smoke a joint? No judgement zone; Check out our guide here

The 420 Rule: Take a hit, pass it along. Grab one gummy, not the whole bag. Moderation and mindfulness go a long way. You may want to take a gummy and split it in half, or quarters to share or save for later

Munchies and music are the backbone of any great THC-friendly gathering. Make sure there’s a solid snack spread and a playlist that complements the vibe—whether it’s chill lo-fi beats or upbeat party anthems.

A well-stocked snack table and killer tunes can elevate a good party to legendary status. Here are a few that anyone will enjoy.

Fruits like watermelon, berries, mangoes, and apples provide natural sugars, fiber, and a burst of refreshing flavor. Mangoes are particularly beloved in the cannabis community for their potential to enhance your high due to the terpene myrcene.

Pro Tip: Pair sliced apples with almond butter or sprinkle a little chili powder on mango slices for a sweet-and-spicy kick. Bonus: you’ll feel like a gourmet chef, even if you’re just standing in your kitchen in pajamas.

Crunchy carrots, celery, and cucumber sticks are a satisfying alternative to chips. Pair them with healthy dips like hummus, guacamole, or Greek yogurt-based ranch for added protein and healthy fats.

Why It Works: The crunch of veggies complements the textural cravings cannabis often inspires, while dips add a creamy contrast that’s endlessly enjoyable. Plus, you’ll feel virtuous enough to justify that chocolate bar you’ll “accidentally” eat later.

What does the Indacloud team do on 420?

Our new Customer Service Manager, Richie, says he’s planning to get outside and smoke in the spring air. “I have a 420 Smoke and Smoke party! Smoke some, eat food, and smoke some flower.” Are you looking for the best strains?

The Marvelous Mona says on 420 she’s enjoying curated terpenes, covered edibles, and anything that’s outside her norm. “Vibe with good company.”

We wrap up with Max “My favorite way to celebrate 420 is by being with a big group of all my friends. We have multiple joints/ blunts going while listening to some good music.”

“Of course, it’s all followed up by ordering the entire menu from the greasiest food establishment we could find. Great in the moment – dead the next day.”

“I would love to have a massive 420 party where the only requirement upon entry is taking a bong rip.”

If you need some inspiration to help you design your best 420 ever, we’ve packed in a few ideas from our activities, movies, books, and munchies guides!
