Is There a Connection Between Delta 8 and CBD?

As the cannabis industry continues to grow and legalization progresses, more people have become aware of THC and CBD. If you’re an active consumer, you probably know about Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, as well as Delta 8 THC. But you may be wondering if delta 8 CBD is an option as a non-psychoactive counterpart to delta 8 THC. Read on to find out the differences and potentially use cases for these cannabinoids.

Does Cannabis Contain Delta 8 CBD?

No, by definition Delta 8 is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and a variation of THC. While you may find products that contain both CBD and Delta 8 THC – and may even be labeled as “Delta 8 CBD Gummies” or “Delta 8 CBD Flower” – know that they are separate components of the plant.

If there’s no Delta 8 CBD, then what is Delta 8?

Delta 8 is a cannabinoid which naturally exists in cannabis in small concentrations. Most often, Delta 8 THC is produced using Delta 9 THC in a process called isolation. While both share similar structures and reported stimulating effects, Delta 8 has a lower psychoactive effect than the more common Delta 9 THC does.

What is CBD?

CBD is a non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis and the second-most abundant cannabinoid in the plant after THC. CBD can be sourced from both marijuana and hemp plants. Positioned as a wellness product, research into CBD has been conducted for maladies such as pain, inflammation, epilepsy, and seizures.

What are the similarities or differences between Delta 8 and CBD

Despite their similar chemical structures, CBD and THC do not have the same psychoactive effects. CBD does not produce the “high-effect” or euphoria that may be associated with THC and it’s the main compound found in hemp which has very little psychoactive compounds. Just like with Delta 9, Delta 8 THC can be combined with CBD, only with a less psychoactive effect. Delta 8 and CBD can have the effects of both cannabinoids with little to no high.
